Today Survival Squad had a little problem. Victoria, Harmony and I went to jail. But it’s ok, we got out at 1. Just kidding, April fools! But we did go to the jail and to pass out new uniforms for the ladies. we also played volleyball and it was the greatest. Even though we didn’t speak in spanish, we definitely spoke through the game of volleyball. The rest of the team went to the autism center for the first time this week. They got a tour, colored, and talked. They even played with play dough. Then the team came and got Victoria, Harmony and I. Then all of us went to the park site. It was great because the kids were very good today. There were NO problems. It was also Julian’ s birthday (a kid at the park site). We sang Happy Birthday and gave him a camp theme shirt. Survival Squad then went to Walmart to get a couple things for the kids at autism center and park site. Today was a day full of God sightings.

After hearing pastor Gaertner’s message on being chosen in Christ, we set out for our first site, Refugio de Amor. What a blast! We had the men doing the Macarena, we had more men playing and singing, and even had some of the more stubborn men smiling for pictures! After Refugio we went to Pastor Pedro’s church where we were able to run our VBS program. We taught about how Jesus is the light of our life and is always there, even when we can’t see Him. We got to rekindle the relationships that we started in years past with both the pastor and adults as well as the teens and kids of the church.

Today the Survival Squad went to Refugio. We colored pictures, played soccer, played basket ball, sang songs, talked with them about God, and so much more. Thank you to Camp X-treme for letting us join you at Refugio. On our way to the park site we adopted a new member of our team. He ‘s very nice and juicy, his name is Orange and he is a pineapple. At the Park site we had a very good day. The kids were pretty much well behaved. We had a great water balloon fight, ending with many folks being soaked. Our skit went well specially because Brandon got soaked. Over all there were many wonderful moments and memories, Love Olivia

Day 1 on Saturday started at Refugio De Amor, a home for men with cognitive disabilities. We were joined by a team of college students from Azusa Pacific University. At Refugio we shot basketballs, kicked soccer balls, colored pictures and sang songs with the men. Sofia has been extra awesome by doubling as our translator for the day! The church site was not quite ready for us, but we met with one of the neighbors and the pastor’s wife- we are excited to start with them on Sunday after their church service!

Unfortunately, the autism center was closed for the weekend because it is a school but that didn’t stop us from continuing our day. We all grabbed a bite to eat at a taco stand for lunch and then headed over to our park site where we fed the kids lunch after our skit, played soccer with them as well as make crafts and everything went well do to our awesome translator Laura. Anna made a new little bestfriend today but are we suprised? no. We’re all having so much fun and so happy to be here. Hope Michigan is treating yall well.

Camp is set up! Boarder crossing went smoothly and we made it to camp this afternoon with plenty of time to set up and get ready for ministry tomorrow. We’re feeling tired but excited that we’re here. Our teams are worshiping and doing bible study before we crash for the night.

Our bags are packed and we’re ready to go. We plan to leave Yuma by 10 (hopefully) and get to Mexicali this afternoon to set up camp. We’ve been busy here in Yuma, hiking, doing scavenger hunts, swimming, and finishing last minute things for our VBS. We did some activities as a group and some split up but we enjoyed the time we got to spend getting to know our teams better. Today we have a long day on the road, but everyone is ready to get our ministry started. We’ll let you know how we’re doing when we make it to camp!
